In a recent diplomatic gathering in Istanbul, Türkiye and seven other nations issued a warning against any new military attacks on Iran, cautioning that such actions could exacerbate regional conflicts and destabilize the Middle East. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized the collective agreement among Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy that diplomacy remains the most viable solution to the crisis.
Participants in the talks highlighted the potential for further military escalation to expand existing conflicts throughout the region rather than alleviate tensions. They expressed a shared commitment to preventing the spread of war and called for efforts to end hostilities in both the Gulf region and Ukraine.
The discussions also addressed Israel’s involvement in regional tensions and assessed security concerns in strategic areas like the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Any disruptions in these critical shipping lanes could have significant repercussions for international trade and global energy markets.
Fidan noted that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are placing considerable economic and financial strains on countries worldwide. He underlined the necessity of international cooperation and effective diplomatic mechanisms to mitigate further destruction and foster peaceful resolutions.
On a separate note, Fidan mentioned Türkiye’s ongoing discussions with Egypt to address concerns related to Ankara’s maritime agreement with Libya. He expressed optimism about improving conditions that might bring Libya’s opposing eastern and western factions closer to reconciliation.
