In a bid to fortify diplomatic and economic ties, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged for enhanced collaboration between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan emphasized the importance of deepening dialogue and cooperation between the two nations, particularly in light of current global conflicts and crises.
Erdoğan highlighted the potential for expanding partnerships in sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and defense. He advocated for the removal of barriers hindering joint defense production, underscoring the positive outcomes already achieved through cooperation on international issues, especially in the Middle East.
As part of his vision for strengthened relations, Erdoğan called on American investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, pointing to the country’s competitive incentives for foreign investment. This call is part of Ankara’s strategic move to launch a new investment drive aimed at bolstering economic collaboration.
Highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense industry, Erdoğan proudly noted the rise in the country’s annual defense exports from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed confidence in Türkiye’s trajectory towards becoming one of the top 10 global defense exporters.
US Senator Chris Coons, who also attended the gala, echoed the sentiment of partnership, emphasizing the significance of business ties and entrepreneurship in reinforcing the longstanding relationship between the two nations. The event served as a platform for senior Turkish and US officials and business leaders to celebrate the enduring diplomatic and economic bonds between the countries.
