Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Meloni, praising her on reaching this historic achievement. Erdoğan expressed his optimism about the future of cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy, highlighting the robust ties that have been fostered under Meloni’s leadership.
Meloni’s government marked its 1,413th consecutive day in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by Silvio Berlusconi’s second administration from 2001 to 2005. Since taking office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has cultivated a strong relationship with Erdoğan, engaging in ongoing discussions on issues of mutual interest and regional concerns.
In recent years, Türkiye and Italy have collaborated closely on a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. This partnership has been further reinforced through their coordination on pressing regional matters, such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine. The two countries have shown a commitment to deepening their strategic connection through various initiatives and agreements.
A significant highlight of their cooperation was the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit, co-chaired by Erdoğan and Meloni in Rome in April 2025. During this event, a series of agreements were signed to bolster their strategic and economic partnership, underscoring the importance both nations place on their alliance. More recently, the leaders met during the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed plans to enhance trade, increase mutual investment, and expand cooperation in defense and other critical sectors.
