In a significant move to bolster its maritime security and technological independence, Türkiye has reiterated its commitment to advancing its defense capabilities. This was highlighted during the closing ceremony of the Teknofest Blue Homeland event, where Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized the escalating importance of safeguarding Türkiye’s maritime interests, referred to as the “Blue Homeland.” Yılmaz noted the growing geopolitical competition and challenges that necessitate enhanced security measures, especially in the domains of critical technologies, energy resources, and trade routes.
The event, held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, featured an impressive display of Türkiye’s naval prowess, showcasing 37 vessels and four aircraft. Among these were the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and the Murat Reis submarine, all complemented by domestically developed unmanned maritime systems. This demonstration underscores Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to integrate advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and secure communication platforms, into its defense strategy.
Yılmaz highlighted that Türkiye’s defense industry has achieved a localization rate exceeding 80%, marking a significant milestone in its quest for self-reliance. He also expressed the nation’s ambition to further cement its status as a leading defense exporter on the global stage. This focus on technological innovation and defense capability enhancement is a clear indicator of Türkiye’s strategic vision for its maritime domain.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform to inspire and engage the next generation of engineers and innovators. The event featured competitions centered around unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies.
