Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has asserted that Türkiye has elevated its global standing following the successful hosting of the NATO Summit on July 7-8. Erdoğan emphasized the summit as a historic accomplishment, noting the presence of prominent world leaders, including US President Donald Trump. This gathering, according to Erdoğan, underscores Türkiye’s burgeoning influence in international diplomacy.
At the summit, NATO leaders reached a consensus on the significance of removing obstacles to defense industry cooperation, a development Erdoğan highlighted as pivotal. He also revealed plans for NATO to establish a Counter-Unmanned Systems Centre of Excellence in Konya, a city in Türkiye. This initiative is seen as a testament to Türkiye’s strategic importance within the alliance.
The summit also featured a Defence Industry Forum that drew nearly 1,000 participants, something Erdoğan believes will not only bolster Türkiye’s defense sector but also enhance its global image and potentially boost tourism. The successful hosting of the summit stands as a testament to Türkiye’s role as a key player on the world stage, fostering opportunities for international collaboration.
Looking ahead, Erdoğan expressed a strong desire to strengthen ties with the United States, targeting an increase in bilateral trade to $100 billion. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s dedication to promoting peace and stability in the region. In a gesture of solidarity, Erdoğan extended condolences to Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, further demonstrating Türkiye’s commitment to regional relationships.
