Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss the ongoing normalization efforts between Türkiye and Armenia, alongside other regional developments. This dialogue marks a continuation of efforts to improve relations between the two nations, which have been strained for decades.

During their conversation, Pashinyan extended greetings to Erdoğan for the Eid al-Adha holiday, highlighting the cordial nature of their engagement. Both leaders took the opportunity to review the progress made in strengthening their bilateral relations and expanding cooperation. This initiative, which began in late 2021, has seen both countries appoint special envoys to spearhead negotiations aimed at mending ties.

Erdoğan underscored the importance of the normalization process, noting the practical measures being implemented to facilitate direct trade and bolster economic interactions between Türkiye and Armenia. He reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and security across the region, emphasizing the importance of these efforts for long-term regional harmony.

The dialogue between Ankara and Yerevan is part of a broader strategy to enhance regional stability and promote economic connectivity throughout the South Caucasus. As part of these efforts, commercial flights between the two countries resumed in 2022, symbolizing a tangible step forward in their relationship.

Despite the challenges that persist, both governments remain dedicated to dialogue and confidence-building measures. This high-level contact signifies a mutual desire to pursue a more constructive bilateral relationship, with both sides expressing continued support for initiatives that increase dialogue and build mutual trust.
