Kapp Becomes All-Time WC Wicket-Taker as SA March into Final

Marizanne Kapp cemented her legacy as one of the game’s all-time greats on Wednesday, becoming the leading wicket-taker in 50-over World Cup history while bowling her team into their first-ever final with a 125-run win over England. Kapp finished with figures of five for 20.
Kapp’s record-breaking day began with a devastating opening spell. She claimed a double-wicket maiden, bowling Amy Jones with a “nip-backer” and removing Heather Knight, to leave England’s chase of 320 in tatters at one for three.
Kapp later returned to break a 107-run partnership, dismissing Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophia Dunkley, and Charlie Dean to complete her five-wicket haul. Her clinical display of seam bowling ensured England were never in the hunt.
The massive total she was defending was constructed by her captain, Laura Wolvaardt, who played an equally monumental innings. Wolvaardt scored 169, accelerating wildly at the death after compiling a patient century.
Wolvaardt’s final 69 runs came off just 28 balls, a blitz that included four sixes and took the game away from England. Despite four wickets for Sophie Ecclestone, England’s bowlers couldn’t stop the late charge, and their batters had no answer for Kapp.
