This innovation, built on a full-duplex architecture, allows the AI to engage in more natural dialogue by providing real-time responses and acknowledgments, such as “mhmm” and “yeah,” thus eliminating prolonged silences and creating smoother interactions.
With GPT-Live, more complex inquiries that necessitate web searches or advanced reasoning can be seamlessly delegated to a more robust AI model operating in the background, all while maintaining the conversational flow. At its launch, these intricate tasks are managed by the GPT-5.5 model, with plans to incorporate even more advanced frontier models in forthcoming updates.
This announcement comes on the heels of OpenAI’s confirmation regarding the upcoming public release of its flagship GPT-5.6 model series, which is poised to be launched following an additional cybersecurity review. The GPT-5.6 series features the flagship Sol model and includes the Terra and Luna variants, highlighting OpenAI’s commitment to advancing AI technology.
Currently, OpenAI is rolling out two versions of its innovative voice models—GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini—to ChatGPT users across the globe.
